When: Week 3 and 4 (Term 3) Final submission by Friday of week 4.
Why: The purpose of this task is for all students to become Student Reporters by reporting on fascinating areas of interest.
What: The possibilities are endless! Consider some of these ideas:
- Create questions and interview a person of interest (pair activity).
- Write about a topic of interest. Research your topic and include pictures to accompany your article.
- Conduct a survey with a sample group within the school (for example favourite foods, sport or TV shows). You may even choose a topic of greater significance.
- Review a favourite book or movie that you would highly recommend.
- Do you have a special ability or talent? This could be the topic of your article.
- Report on a current event that you attended and would like to share with our audience.
- Write about an activity at the school (eg. Games Rangers, Footsteps).Make sure you interview children/adults related to the special activity. Another example could also be to write about our Author Visit and interview Brian Falkner.
- Conduct an investigation or experiment and share your findings.
How:
- Decide on a topic of interest that will engage your target audience and whether you intend to work independently or in a pair.
- Write down a plan of attack (the things you will need to do to achieve your objective).
- Conduct research to familiarise yourself with the topic. This may involve asking people with expertise on the topic you are doing.
- Jot down key information related to your topic.
- Conduct a survey, interview, investigation or experiment if that is relevant to your topic.
- Record appropriate information and draw conclusions.
- Write a rough copy of your article.
- Check your work for spelling and punctuation. This is your job as the Editor of your piece.
- Submit your article to Mr Richardson if you would like feedback.
- Submit your typed good copy with appropriate pictures and diagrams.
